Women of Washington is an educational organization with a focus on understanding local, national, and global issues that are critical to our world today. Our organization is multi-generational, providing camaraderie with other engaged women to explore important ideas and issues of our day. We encourage our members to be both informed and involved in their community, the political process, and in areas of their own specific interests.
The idea for monthly informal, educational coffee meetings among women was formed at a fundraiser early in 2004. The need was clearly evident by the immediate interest and number of attendees. Women of Washington was adopted as our name within a year and the tradition of a major summer event began in 2005. As the group continued to grow, a decision was made to formalize further. Thus, a certificate of incorporation from the state of Washington was received in 2008, and then followed by recognition as a 501C-4 by the IRS in 2009.
From September to June, Women of Washington (WOW) hosts an evening event with local, regional and national speakers that are leaders in their fields. Also, two celebrations are held each year: the Summer Gala and the Christmas Event, benefiting a special charity. Guests of our members, both male and female, are welcome to attend our events and, as a result, friendships have grown and circles of influence strengthened.
In addition to the events we host for our members and their guests, we publish a weekly online newsletter, “Window on WOW”. This newsletter highlights articles on current events, updates the membership on our upcoming events, and spotlights other organizations events that would be of interest to our membership.
